Incheon International Airport (ICN) is on Yeongjong Island, about 50 kilometres west of central Seoul, so the trip in takes about an hour whichever way you go. The cheapest way from Incheon to Seoul is the AREX all-stop train. The limousine bus is the one to take with a big suitcase and a hotel in Myeongdong or Insadong. A taxi makes sense for a group, a pile of luggage or a very late landing, and after the last train, night buses take over. Here’s what each costs in 2026, how long it takes from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and which one we’d pick for each part of the city.

Check which terminal your flight uses before you plan the rest. Asiana moved to Terminal 2 on 14 January 2026, joining Korean Air, Jin Air, Air Busan, Air Seoul and Delta there. Most other foreign airlines and low-cost carriers still use Terminal 1. The two terminals are six minutes apart by train, and T2 is the end of the line, so everything from T2 takes a few minutes longer.
AREX train: all-stop or Express?
The Airport Railroad, known as AREX, leaves from the Transportation Center below each terminal: follow the “Train” signs down from arrivals. Two services share the line, and most visitors should take the cheaper one.
The all-stop train is an ordinary commuter line. It runs every few minutes from around 5:20 am until about midnight and stops at Gimpo Airport, Hongik University (for Hongdae), Gongdeok and Seoul Station. With a T-money card, it’s ₩4,750 from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station and ₩5,350 from Terminal 2. The ride takes 59 minutes from T1 and 66 from T2. You can also buy a single-journey card from the machines, but a T-money card saves you queuing again for every subway ride afterwards.
The AREX Express goes straight to Seoul Station with no stops, in 43 minutes from T1 and 51 from T2, with a reserved seat. It costs ₩13,000 for adults and ₩9,500 for children at the station. Klook, KKday and similar sites sell vouchers for about ₩11,000 to ₩11,500, which you scan at the Express machines. T-money doesn’t work on it. Trains leave roughly every 30 to 40 minutes, and the last ones leave the airport at about 10:40 to 10:50 pm.
Is the Express worth it? We don’t think so for most people. It saves about a quarter of an hour for nearly three times the fare, and it only goes to Seoul Station, where you still have to change to reach most hotels. The one real argument for it is the seat: in the evening rush, the all-stop fills up with commuters and you may stand with your suitcase for part of the ride.
Flying home with a Korean airline? The City Airport Terminal at Seoul Station lets Express passengers check their bags and clear immigration before boarding the train, roughly from 5:20 am to 7 pm, and at least three hours before departure (3 hours 20 minutes for Terminal 2 flights). It covers Korean Air, Asiana, Jeju Air, T’way, Air Seoul, Air Busan, Jin Air and Eastar Jet.
Buy your T-money card at a convenience store in arrivals: the card costs ₩2,500 to ₩4,000 and you top it up with cash. Our T-money card guide covers fares, transfers and when Seoul’s Climate Card Tourist Pass is the better buy. Note that the Climate Card doesn’t cover the AREX Express or the airport limousine buses.
Airport limousine bus: Incheon to Myeongdong, Gangnam and Hongdae
The airport limousine bus is the easy option with a large suitcase. The driver loads it into the hold, you sit down, and the bus stops outside or near the big hotels. Stops are outside arrivals on Level 1 at Terminal 1 and in the basement transport area at Terminal 2. Buy your ticket at the booth or kiosk first; it’s the simplest way at both terminals. Fares are ₩17,000 for adults and ₩12,000 for children on Airport Limousine routes, and ₩18,000 on the K-Limousine routes.
| Bus | Main stops | Adult fare |
|---|---|---|
| 6001 | Myeongdong, Seoul Station, Dongdaemun | ₩17,000 |
| 6015 | Myeongdong Station area | ₩17,000 |
| 6002 | Hongik University (Hongdae), Sinchon, Gwanghwamun, Jongno, Dongdaemun | ₩17,000 |
| 6005 | Insadong, Gwanghwamun, City Hall | ₩17,000 |
| 6701 | City Hall, Myeongdong, Gwanghwamun hotels | ₩18,000 |
| 6103 | Samseong Station and COEX | Check at the booth |
Gangnam and Jamsil have their own routes too; the airport’s website keeps the full list with stops, and the booth staff will point you to the right number if you show them your hotel’s address. Expect about 60 to 90 minutes, a bit longer in the evening rush.
Incheon airport taxi fares
Take a taxi only from the official ranks outside arrivals, and ignore anyone offering you a ride inside the terminal. A regular taxi starts at ₩4,800 on the meter, a deluxe black taxi or a jumbo van at ₩7,000. Expressway tolls are added to the fare. To Myeongdong, a regular taxi usually comes to ₩60,000 to ₩75,000; to Gangnam, ₩70,000 to ₩100,000. At night the meter adds 20% from 10 to 11 pm and from 2 to 4 am, and 40% from 11 pm to 2 am.
The International Taxi is the stress-free version: drivers who speak some English and fixed fares by zone within Seoul, booked on 1644-2255 or picked up at stand 4C in Terminal 1 and 3C in Terminal 2. Kakao T works in English and Uber operates at Incheon too, but paying the driver directly by card is usually simpler than wrestling with a foreign card in the app. Our Korea eSIM guide explains why some Korean apps want a local number.
Arriving late: night buses from Incheon
The last Express trains leave before 11 pm and the last all-stop trains around midnight, and the first trains don’t run until about 5:15 am. In between, four night buses run from roughly 11:20 pm to 4:50 am. Buy tickets at the booths or kiosks.
| Night bus | Goes to | Fare | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| N6000 | Gangnam Express Bus Terminal | ₩17,000 | About 70 min |
| N6002 | Hongdae, then on to Cheongnyangni | ₩17,000 | About 90 min |
| N6701 | Mapo, Seoul Station, Dongdaemun Design Plaza | ₩18,000 | About 70 min |
| N6703 | COEX, Jamsil, Gwangnaru | ₩18,000 | About 85 min |
Best way to Myeongdong, Hongdae, Gangnam and Insadong
| Staying in | Our pick | Cheaper alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Myeongdong | Limousine bus 6001 or 6015 | AREX all-stop to Seoul Station, then Line 4, two stops to Myeongdong |
| Hongdae | AREX all-stop straight to Hongik University, about 50 to 58 min | Bus 6002 if you have heavy bags |
| Gangnam | Limousine bus, or a taxi for three or more people | AREX all-stop to Gimpo Airport, then Line 9 express, about 1 hour 30 |
| Insadong or Jongno | Limousine bus 6005 | AREX to Seoul Station, then Line 1 to Jonggak |
For Incheon airport to Myeongdong, the bus wins on comfort and the train wins on price: the rail route costs about a third of the bus fare but means lugging your case through Seoul Station’s transfer corridors. With a backpack, we’d take the train. With a 25-kilo suitcase, the bus.
Gimpo Airport to Seoul
Flying into Gimpo (GMP) instead, from Jeju, Tokyo Haneda, Osaka or Shanghai? It’s much closer to the city and sits on five rail lines: subway Lines 5 and 9, the AREX all-stop, the Gimpo Goldline and the Seohae Line. Line 9 express trains reach Gangnam quickly, and the AREX takes you to Hongdae and Seoul Station. A subway ride starts at ₩1,550 with T-money.
What we would actually do
With light luggage and a hotel in Hongdae or near Seoul Station, we’d tap a T-money card and take the AREX all-stop. With a big case and a hotel in Myeongdong, Insadong or Gangnam, we’d buy a limousine bus ticket at the booth and let the driver deal with the bag. Three or four people, or a landing after 10 pm, and a taxi from the official rank is worth the money. We’d skip the Express unless the all-stop platform looks packed.
